Upcoming justice related legislative initiatives

Sarah and Janet will be sharing information on upcoming initiatives and legislation that are supported by the Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition, Parole4Maine and Southern Maine for Racial Justice, as well as some information on the York County Jail where they are on the Board of Visitors. 

Janet Drew and Sarah Johnson are members of the Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition, Parole4Maine, the Maine Participatory defense HUB, Southern Maine for Racial Justice and the York County Jail Board of Visitors.
 
Sarah has worked in manufacturing software for a few decades, and has been a volunteer educator in the Maine prison and jail system. 
 
Janet is a retired nurse and long time advocate for environmental, health and social issues. 
 
We are meeting with county rotary clubs to discuss the state of the court and carceral system in Maine, and present legislative initiatives our groups are supporting.

David Patch from Maine Veterans in Need will be our speaker. Maine Veterans in Need's mission is "to assist veterans and their dependents who are in need, to advocate for those in active crisis/emergency, to prevent homelessness, and to help those who are homeless to transition into stable housing."

David is a 25 year career Naval officer, having graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1966. He served 5 tours in Vietnam, both on off the coast and in-country. He completed his Naval career on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations. After retiring from the Navy he spent 20 years in the private sector focusing on Research and Development as a contractor for the Navy, the last ten years as a partner in small companies.

Since his retirement from the private sector in 2011, Dave has been dedicated to supporting veterans and people with disabilities. His current projects include:

  • Maine Veterans in Need: Co-founder, President
  • Veteran Support Volunteer: One-on-one veteran and veteran family support navigating VA system, etc. 
  • Military Officers Association of America
  • Maine Veterans Coordinating Committee
  • Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation, volunteer bike, kayak, and ski instructor
  • Post 37 Corporation, Boothbay: President
