Support of the Rotary Foundation makes available funds that can be used in local projects by Rotary Clubs in the District. This year the Kittery School District identified a need for an inhouse washer and dryer at the high school for student use. The Rotary Club of Kittery responded.
Donations by Rotary Clubs and Rotarians to the Rotary Foundation support large scale global projects but also a portion comes back to the District to be used to support local club projects in their communities. This year, the School Department identified that there was a need for a student-use clothes washing capability at the High School. Research with the school established a location, Andy Glazier (PDG and treasurer of the Rotary Club of Kittery) volunteered to write the grant, and the grant was approved. One of the major focus areas of Rotary Clubs is supporting education, and sometimes that support takes unusual forms.
This fall there is now installed a washer and dryer and support materials and equipment at Traip Academy. On September 24th , after the Rotary Club meeting in the school cafeteria with the 2024 RYLA Campers, the club gathered to see the installation along with detergent, ironing boards, and clothes baskets, along with the installation of a plaque identifying the donation.
