A New School Year, and we begin once again to recognize and celebrate the R.W. Traip Academy and Shapleigh School Students of the Month! Meeting these fine young people is always a favorite Club event.
To give the schools a chance to know and work with the students each year, the Rotary Club of Kittery and the Schools celebrate both the September and October Students of the Month on the fourth week of October. The Students of the Month Meetings have been hosted in the Traip Academy Cafeteria to facilitate Staff and student participation. The September Students of the Month are Gareth Gagnon for Shapleigh and Emery Egypt for Traip. The October Students of the Month are Reese Allen for Shapleigh School, and co-Students of the month, Elivia Mandani and Peter Brewer for Traip Academy
Gareth Gagnon was nominated for the September Student of the Month  by the Shapleigh 6th Grade Team . Gareth is recognized for his very engaged and enthusiastic approach to learning. Gareth does not hesitate to ask questions when he needs to, and he is the first to offer assistance to his fellow students when they need help.

The Traip September Student of the Month, Emery Egypt, is a consummate reader and a skillful writer. She is very helpful with her peers and her positive attitude and sense of humor make her a quiet standout in the class. As noted by her teacher, when he slips in some subtle humor into his discussion, Emery is the first to have listened carefully enough to catch it and react.
Reese Allen has been nominated by the 7h Grade team as the Shapleigh October Student of the Month.  Reese is a committed student, he stays engaged in the classroom and leads by example. He is also very supportive of the teachers in helping with his peers.

Elivia Mandani and Peter Brewer are the co-nominees for the Traip Academy October Student of the Month. Through out their time at Traip they have pushed through almost all the science offerings of the school. This year they both wanted to take a Physics II Advance Placement course, and made the effort to get a number of friends to take it with them so the course could happen, besides getting as much as they possible could out of their years at Traip they are both active athletes. Elivia has also been very active in the Traip Interact Club and shares her family's interest in healthcare (the family just established an nursing school in Tanzania), Elivia has worked that interest into her senior year capstone project.
Kittery School Superintendent and Kittery Rotary Club member, Eric Waddell, presented each student with a Rotary 4-Way Test medallion and had them sign a book to be donated in their names to the school libraries. their names will be added to the Student of the Month plaques in the schools.
