August 20th, the Rotary Club of Kittery was treated to a short show of exceptional wildlife photographer Terry Chick's recent work. Terry recently had his work included in a show at the Kittery Art Association and in January, he will be showcased at the Morgan Gallery at the Kittery Community Center. Terry is very interested in capturing wildlife behavior and habitat.

During one of the  the Club's Social meetings last spring we has a chance to see some of Terry Chick's photography from  Alaska, northern Maine, and Africa at the Kittery Art Association.

Since then Terry has been back to Alaska again to catch the brown bears gathering for the salmon runs, to Canadian maritimes capturing pictures of seabirds, and back to Baxter state park  picturing moose near Mt. Katahdin.

His slide show for the Club started with views of dozens of bears  fishing for the salmon heading upstream to spawn. His pictures included a mother with two cubs and close-ups of the 'fishermen' at work. Terry noted that even with his experience and timing, catching the fish at the right moment with the bear looking toward the camera, takes patience and lots of exposures. From years of trips, he knows the time of year - to the week, when the salmon will start their run and the bears will gather.

Terry's work can be seen on his website https://naturepictures.net
Terry signed a book which will be
given to the school libraries
in his name with thanks from our Club
